Easter Bunny, an eclipse and Wine....

 Yeah I'm way behind in all the things happening. Surprised? I doubt it. Kaleb and Pamela had the boys Easter Weekend and the Easter Bunny hopped in for a drop off. Killian and Braxton had a full day because they the Easter Bunny also went by their Grandparents house in Huntsville and left them some goodies.

     I got this African Violet from two of the ladies from quilt retreat last April and I'm amazed. It has been blooming like crazy continuously. Usually I kill them but they told me a secret... Put the pot in a bowl and fill the bowl with water when it's time to water. And it works and it lives after a year. A first for me.

Then I moved outside to snap of pictures of all the roses. They were blooming like crazy. 

This the fullest the Julia Childs Roses have ever been. I guess they've finally gotten used to their home and placement.

Then there's the pink Belinda's Dream which are our overachievers ever year and throughout the year. In front are some coral drift roses.
And our Peggy Martin went crazy this year. Wow! It's packed with sweet roses. We need to get a couple more these to fill the fence to hide the propane tank.

On April 8th I went to the gym in Cameron and while there people started filling the parking lots around and throughout town and looking toward the sky. Waiting for the eclipse. I was driving home and it started getting really dark. It was kind of a weird feeling. I mean it wasn't storming but it was getting dark. Yes I know that's what an eclipse does. LOL but it was an eerie feeling. 

So when I drove up the driveway this is what I saw... David had the eclipse glasses on that I was given while at quilt retreat by one of the girls and staring at the sun.    
I parked my car and went out to take a turn at looking through the glasses. Pretty cool sight. Just a sliver of the sun was showing. So we too can say we saw the eclipse and we didn't drive anywhere to see it. LOL Glad the weather cooperated for everyone and no clouds obscured the view.

This year was our 10th annual Mother Daughter Trip. We headed back to Fredericksburg. On Thursday (4/11) we hopped in our car and headed out. Let the fun begin.  Our first stop was Blue Corn Harvest Bar & Grill in Georgetown for a bite of lunch that was so very tasty.  Then on to the Thirsty Mule in Liberty Hill. We tried some wine and Pamela also tried some bourbon there.

After this we got on the road to head toward Fredericksburg but then we took a detour to The Vineyard in Florence. David and I had gone here earlier last year after I was able to have some wine. He wasn't impressed with the wine but I thought I was but sadly not this time. My taste buds continue change over the past year. Things that I did like I haven't been impressed with. At least Pamela was able to taste for herself. 

  

From here we headed on to Fredericksburg or so we thought. LOL We ended up in Marble Falls and noticed that the Bluebonnet Cafe wasn't crowded so we stopped for dinner.  The food wasn't bad but the pie was pretty darn good. I had to wait until later to eat my pie in 2 settings and days. 

Friday 4/12 our first stop was Untamed Winery for lunch and wine. No tasting for me, I got a glass of their Pinot Grigio but Pamela did. Then she got a glass of a sparkling rose. Lunch was a yummy pizza. Something totally different. It was called the Harvest: Chutney, gouda, bacon, apple, sage.  It was so good. Something that I never would have ordered but Pamela said we should try and we did.

  

Untamed is such a pretty and nice place. The staff is awesome.

 

We decided to try a couple new places this trip. Next stop was Siboney Cellars. Pronounced See-Bon-Nay

There's a lot of cuban history and a story behind the name. The wine was nice. It was really hard trying to get a good picture with all the wind. Most of the time it was in our face or blowing up. Outside the window we were entertained by the hummingbirds. I need to bring David back here.

 

Their insignia reminded me of my sorority insignia.

I know totally unrelated to the trip but that's what I saw.

And now we headed down the road to Covington Cellars

We sat out on the patio since they were having a meeting inside but it was shielded from most of the wind so it was fine and view was nice.

We stayed here longer than planned since we were enjoying our wine and the live entertainment showed up. A singer named Keelan Donovan and I'll be damned I can't remember where he was from but it was out of state. He was good.

It was getting late so we needed to leave. We made a quick stop at Fat Ass Winery so Pamela could pick up a couple of bottles for friends and something for Kaleb. Now it's time for dinner. I was wanting to try out Alstadt Brewery restaurant and Pamela said okay.  We weren't disappointed. The food was good and the service was great. I had a chicken schnitzel and Pamela had the salmon.  Pamela got a bit buzzed because what I couldn't drink I'd pour in her tasting glass and I ordered a sangria at dinner but I just couldn't drink it and she did. It was good but I was too full. 

Can I just say I was ready to leave her on the side of the road on the way back to the hotel. LOL. She was very very talkative and goofy. I figured once I got her back to the room and she got in bed she'd fall fast asleep. Well it took another 30 minutes. Relief. Gotta love my partner in crime. LOL

Saturday's (4/13) we avoid Fredericksburg since all the tour buses, limos and other hill country visitors are in town making it super crowded.  We went to Mary's Taco's for a quick lunch. The tacos were huge but really good. You go in order and either eat outside on the patio or take them with you.  There's no inside eating. We ate out on the patio.  As we were leaving we saw they had a bunch of other items available. They are very popular because there was a steady stream of people.  Tummies full and we're off to Singing Water Winery  

This is a pretty venue. We like to go have a glass of wine and sit out under the trees and usually listen to some live music. It's just a relaxing place to hang out. We both got a glass of Texas Sunrise Rose'. It's another very windy day and spring like so the big red wasps were very active which might have shortened out stay. LOL. Pamela wanted nothing to do with them. I'm not gonna lie I wasn't impressed either but I wasn't as anxious as she was.   Love the flowers all in a row. 

We left Singing Water and headed to Hill Country Spirits formerly known as Hill Country Distillers in Comfort. When John Rivenburgh & Kelly Hagemeier bought them they moved them to Kerrville. It didn't happen right away but they opened a winery in the old Kerrville Hills Winery building and Hill Country Spirits.  You'll find the spirits to the left and wines to the right.  They're plan is to offer two specialty drinks each day and today was the prickly pear margarita and the bloody Mary. Pamela got the margarita and I got the bloody Mary made with jalapeno moonshine. Soooo good. Got my vegetables for the day. LOL

We used to walk in do a tasting and head to the next stop but not the last two years. Now we spend more time and relax. Our last wine stop was Kerrville Hills Winery at their new location. Also owned by John Rivenburgh. This location is really nice and someone made a comment about turning into a cemetery but it's not really a cemetary. LOL it's wine vines!.  But from the road when you're ready to turn in it looks like headstones. We laughed when we realized it was just the vines. We hung out until closing time and asked for dinner recommendations. We got plenty so we had to pick and go back next year to try the others I guess.

We ended up at the Grape Juice. We have seen this place every time we've been in Kerrville but never knew exactly what it was. Now we do. We ordered an appetizer of brussel sprouts and they were really good. The menu changes so when I went to look what they were called they weren't on the menu as write this post. Too bad because they were good.  I remember having shrimp tacos and I think Pamela had fish tacos.    By the time we left it was late enough that we headed back to the hotel for the night.                                                

Sunday (4/14) we woke up and headed to another new place to eat. El Sol de Mexico. Wasn't impressed. It was okay and service was just okay. Won't be going back.  One more stop before heading home that turned into two but in the same parking lot. We were stopping at Fiesta Winery and when we pulled into the parking lot we decided to go into Six Shooters. 

 Six Shooters had wine from all over. The gal that runs the place was really nice but for us the wine wasn't a really big deal since we'd been to many of the wineries in person but it might be a good stop for someone who wants to try those wineries without driving there. After that we walked across the driveway to Fiesta. I didn't partake in a tasting or a glass. I was done as I was the driver. The gal behind the counter recognized us from prior visits. And before we knew it was time to get on the road and head home.  It's been a fun few days. Until next year and by then she'll be a married lady.       Oh and while I was gone the book club met up to discuss our latest book called The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. Great book written during the time of WWII.  You will be inspired and moved. Might need the tissues too.
