She'll be coming around the mountain............

We ate at so many good places while in Durango and I can't tell you which one we ate at which day except for a couple. Kevin and Pam made sure we saw the sights and ate well. Even when we cooked at home. Tuesday June 13th in Durango Colorado we get up and go into town to have breakfast at none other than the Durango Diner. I had a green chili egg burrito. Let's just say after a few hours my stomach was rumbling. It was a huge burrito and was smothered in green chili's.  But it was good going down.
After breakfast we headed to Silverton by car. What a beautiful drive.

Wasn't exactly a lot of places to pull over to take pictures but these came out okay. I took them as we drove up and down and around the curves and mountains. Poor Pam was on the edge of her seat the whole time. She has a definite fear of heights especially when we were close to the edge of the road and it was a straight down fall but she did survive. I think she was ready for a beer after that or maybe two. Love you Pam.
Made it to Silverton and our first stop was the courthouse where there was a bathroom and a parking space. Look what I found in the courthouse... A quilt hanging on the wall. Leave it to me to find a quilt.

Silverton was a colorful town. Can't imagine what it looks like in the winter all covered in snow.  Funny thing happened while walking down the streets of Silverton and shopping. We're all talking and laughing when Kevin calls his wife Pam by the name Debbie. Uh who's Debbie? It became the joke for the rest of the week. He has no clue where that came from.
We may not have rode the train but Pam took our picture in front of it.  It arrived at the same time we did.  Oh and did I mention it was only 37 degrees when we woke up. It was close to 50 when we got to Silverton. Beside if we had road the train we wouldn't have been able to stop in Ouray or drive on to Telluride.

Then I took a picture of Kevin and Pam with the train.

After shopping and walking the streets we hopped back in the car and headed down or I guess it was up the road to Ouray. More beautiful scenery.

Look at the snow still clinging to the mountains.

Made it to Ouray without falling over the side of a mountain and We found a place to park and the first thing I see is O'Brien's Pub.

I sent a message to Pamela's (my daughter) friend Marlaina back in Houston telling her that they named a Pub after her and the hubby.
We continued down the street to shop and look around. I found this cute little piece in one shop and picked it up for a quilter friend of mine Donna @ Donna's Lavender Nest. She loves to make pin cushions and will put one in the egg.  I also found a sign that would be appropriate for any dog owner.
I sent a picture of it to my co-worker Ashley because we both tend to wear some dog fur to work a lot of mornings.
We stopped to have a bite of lunch at a pizza place. And David and I shared a hamburger. I know I know a hamburger. While sitting there David texted a co-worker of his who just happens to have a get away fixer upper in Ouray. Jimmy gave us the address and directions. It was about 3 blocks away. So after lunch we went to see where Jimmy likes to get away from the heat and hustle of Houston.
Kevin stopped and Pam took our picture in front of Jimmy's house.

Jimmy said it felt weird seeing us in front of his house and him not there but thought it was cool that we took time to go by. This is his views standing in the front yard. Downtown Ouray and Cascade falls, and mountains. Heaven....

Some people have all the luck. Just gorgeous. Our next stop was Telluride.  We rode the gondola to the first jump off and saw plenty of these little guys running around on what would be the slopes when it's ski season.
More Awesome views again.

You can just barely see the falls in Telluride in the below picture. It looks like a white line.

What a beautiful and fun day.
We didn't go hungry while visiting with Pam and Kevin. They cooked Chili one night, ate at place called Chimayos and I had a margarita flat bread pizza with jalapenos. That was so good. The jalapenos really added flavor. One day for lunch we ate a place called KEN AND SUES under the veranda  I had a mushroom sandwich with balsamic. Not bad but wasn't exactly what I expected. One night David and Kevin went down the road to get us pizza. YUM. The drive thru of this place was about 3 inches wider than Kevin's SUV.
On Wednesday 6/14, David and I took some pictures around the condo.
Can you see the Lizard on the rocks.

You can just make out the Animas River behind us. We slept with the balcony door open in our bedroom and you could hear the river water rushing by.

When we were coming back from Telluride yesterday I spied this quilt shop. Pam and Kevin were so sweet to take me back by it on Wednesday so I could check it out. The ladies were really sweet there. I might have bought some fabric and this Tshirt.  LOL

Gotta Love It

Front and Back

Every time we left the condo we'd pass this tavern. I thought it funny when I read the sign. You would find medicinal shops all everywhere. Meaning of course they had some form of pot for sale. You can even grow a plant and take in on a certain day to sell at this place Kevin was telling us about. I think I got that story right.

Well we have one more day in Colorado but I'll save that and the rest of our adventures for another post.

Until then...Travel becomes a strategy to accumulate photographs

The Fun and Relaxation continues

During the day that Saturday when there was no music David and I did some exploring around Kerrville and happened upon a great place to eat called Cafe at the Ridge.
It was a really neat place with a nursery and areas to just hang out. On the weekends they'll have music in the evening. My grilled chicken wrap was huge and I could only eat half of it.
While walking around on the grounds we came across this sign and the cool chicken house .

The chickens could run from this coop to the next one via a tunnel made of twigs. You can kinda see it in the picture to the right of the coop. They were begging for food. It was like they were whining.

They had a huge bed of sunflowers. Photo opt LOL
And the nursery had all kinds of cool yard decor.
I love the cement chair with all the succulents. That would be cool to have up at the farm. Or anywhere actually.
From here we met our friends the Ragan's at the Bending Branch Winery just outside Comfort. We drank wine and snacked on cheese and crackers. Lots of talk and laughter between long time friends. It was a great afternoon. After this we headed back to Luckenbach for the music.
That Sunday Morning we took off and headed to Durango Colorado to visit and stay with our friends Pam and Kevin Jackson. They bought a condo up there to get away to. We drove for 10 hours that day.  We were going to stop in Albuquerque. NM.
We started seeing lots of windmill power and lots of oil pumpers. and a lot of flat land by the time we hit the High plains and Big Springs, TX.

They were everywhere.
Getting out of Texas took most of the day Then we finally hit the NM line. Siri welcomed us to NM.
These people are out in the middle of no where. Every now and then we'd see a tree, a cow or a deer but never a house for a long ways. I wonder what these people do for a living... Now I don't have to tell you where the next pictures were taken do I?
I mean I was almost abducted! We never did get the frantic look at the same time. MMmm Maybe I was smiling because they were gonna take him and not me.  Just kiddin sweetie. LOL
Roswell, NM

You'll have to excuse some of my pictures. I was taking them as we drove down the road at 80 mph. We finally made it to Albuquerque for food and a good nights sleep. Our butts were hurting after that 10 hours. Next morning we ate breakfast and jumped in the car for the last 4 hours of our drive to Durango. This part of the drive gets a little more scenic.  We're starting to see mountains in the distance. YAY

And we finally heard Siri say "Welcome to Colorado"
I was happy and I could see the snow capped mountains ahead and it's June 12th. The weather was beautiful.
When we got to Our friends home in Durango we unloaded the car and head to town to sight see. Found some funny Tshirts. LOL

And sitting the Jackson Patio relaxing with a cinnamon toast crunch drink watching the Animas River roar by. Thanks to our host Kevin. Soooo good. Started getting a little nippy outside when the sun went down.
Every night we were there we slept with the balcony door open.

Woke up the next morning (Tuesday 6/13) to the temp of 37 degrees outside

Our plans for the day....head to Silverton, Ouray, and Telluride. No we didn't take the train, Kevin drove. I hear it's a cool ride but I think we had plenty of fun and we wouldn't have gotten to see or do some the things we did had we rode the train.

Well I've made this post lengthy too... See what happens when I don't post weekly. Story to be continued...

Until next post.."The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart." Elisabeth Foley

How Time Flies when you're having fun.

Wow it's been busy around here. The entire month of May was dedicated to packing up stuff we won't be needing, de-cluttering and sprucing up the house. David worked his butt off getting the outside and inside looking like new with landscaping, painting, general repairs and lugging boxes out of the house as I filled them. And on June 3rd our house officially went on the market. Wow we did it and had several showing right off the bat and then the market seemed to go flat. I sure hope it picks up soon. This the beginning of the process to be able to build and retire to the Rockin K Farm.
Know anyone looking for a house in the Tomball area, minutes away from 99 Grand Parkway, 1 1/3 acre, a patio perfect to entertain on or just relax, a spacious floor plan, well click Here to check it out and contact our realtor for more info. Here's a couple of sneak peak pictures

I had to work on getting my sewing room presentable because it wasn't. It was more like a hurricane went through it. But it is looking good now and presentable. I can't necessarily find anything but it's definitely more accessible.
The quilt on the design wall I finished for my step-father to give to his great-granddaughter Penelope. That's him and my Mom along with Lola holding it so I could snap the picture. Hope Penelope likes it.

I had had my round robin quilt top I was working on, on the design wall the night before they took the pictures of the house and decided I better take it down in case the person it belonged to looked at our listing. Margie's not suppose to see it until the final reveal which will be in late September when it's complete.
Margie helped mentore me in making my first Tshirt Quilt for Pamela with some of the hundreds of tshirts she had collected over the years of her college days. Plus I had it custom quilted by Betty Baker @ T-Shirt Quilts of Texas. The quilt turned out awesome. Before Pamela came home to visit I put it on the queen size bed she sleeps in so when she walked in the room she'd see it right away. I could hear Pamela yelling Oh Wow. She loved it. Oh and Yes I said queen size. The quilt fits perfect on the queen size bed.
Here's some up close views of some of the quilting. I believe Betty said it took about 8 hours to quilt digitally. Can't imagine how long it would take if you did this by hand.

Pamela couldn't wait to try it out. She curled up and took a nap under it. I still haven't got the binding on it but when I do I want to take some better pictures of the over all quilt.  Now on to my next and last round robin quilt top and a baby quilt that I'm working on with a friend of mine.    Maybe sometime in all this our house will sell.
Pamela has a special visitor from Missouri
when she went back home. When we were in Missouri last year for my nephew Zachariah's wedding, Pamela and my other nephew Tyler's girlfriend hit it off and became good buddies. Well now she's an X I'm told. Pamela took Hannah around Texas A&M, up the Rockin K,  and they might have hit a couple wineries. They had a great time hanging out. On Hannah's way home Pamela followed her to Waco and they went to the Magnolia Silo's.
I'm going to have to break up my posts to share all that went on in June thru now in July.

David and I were ready to get away and relax after all the prep work for getting the house on the market so we headed to Luckenbach for some music and relaxation.
Thomas Michael Riley was having his annual music festival. He always has a great line up of music artist. Of course of of our favs was there Davin James,  and of course Thomas Michael himself and another fav Max Stallings with his wife Heather on Fiddle and Bryce Clark on base guitar here in the picture.
While there we hung out with our long time friends The Ragan's.  And go figure during the day we might have met up at a winery before the music began again later that evening.
I'm gonna stop for now or this will take forever to read. I mean it's long enough as it is. So I'll pick up on my next post with our adventures in the Hill Country.

Until next post.... Like all great travellers, I have seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.
