May Reading, Quilting, and Family

Started off May with our book club meeting. We moved it up a week because over half the group was going to be gone  on the actually meeting date but all 11 of us were able to gather on Cinco de Mayo at Bob's Steak House for our discussion on Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. Kristin Hannah did her historical research on this one. It's based during the depression and started in the Texas Panhandle and went to California.  It was a really good book but it was a bit brutal/depressing. I mean times were hard for many folks during that period. We suggest you read a happy book prior and have one handy to read afterwards but this one was worth the read.  There was lots of opinions, discussion and always laughs. Along some good food.

That night I passed on the t-shirt quilt that Emily asked me to make for her grandson. He's graduating this year and had a 1000 point career playing basketball. I know she liked it and I hope he likes it. By the time I post this blog he'll have received it. (He liked it! YAY!) Emily had shared some pictures of them during the basketball awards night. I chose the one of her and grandpa with James and made it part of the quilt. And before you ask... yes Ray and Emily are dwarfed by their 6'5" grandson.  If you look closely at the close up of the quilt here you'll see the quilting theme is basketballs.  Thank you Donna @ Donna's Lavender Nest for your awesome quilting.
I love the saying they asked me to put on the quilt label.
My honey brought me flowers for Mother's Day. They were beautiful and when the stargazers bloomed I can smell them every time I walked in the house.

So it was time for Mother's Day and Kaleb's birthday celebration. David had the plan all worked out. So Happy Birthday to Kaleb and Happy Mother's Day to Pamela and I. Plus all you that have the job of being a Mom.
Our adventures started at the Rising Sun vineyards for lunch, wine and/or beer since they have both. They've expanded their food menu. We had pizza, Kaleb had chorizo n egg breakfast taco's and Pamela had the pork sliders but they have hamburgers and more on the menu now.

This boy is a mess but he's my favorite son in law.   He's a keeper.
Next stop is Kooper Family Distrillery. I'm not much of a whiskey drinker but I was willing to give it a try. I got a chai Old Fashioned, David got an old fashion, Kaleb got a flight tasting, and Pamela might have gotten an old fashion too but I forgot. The drinks were really good. Kaleb liked it enough to buy a bottle of the Rye Whiskey. We want to go back again. It's not a big place but it was cozy and tasty.
Our last stop was The Busted Oak Cellars. Only choice here was wine but that's totally okay with me. Just got my hair cut by Frank in Hearne and he always gets it super smooth and straight. I'm not that good.
Family time is always a fun time. And when you get David and Kaleb together you never know what's going to be said or happen.

Of course we had to get a picture in the big Maroon Chair.
Our final stop was for food.. We stopped at Mandito's in Round Top.  The service was good but food was just okay. After eating, it hit poor Kaleb. He wasn't feeling so well. OOps we broke him.
At least we all had a good time. I think. LOL
And I'll end with Bri Bri after her spa day at Top Paw Pet Spa.

She's a pretty girl but she can get noisy with her barking at various sounds. Like a cough or a sneeze for instance.

Well that's it for now folks.
