Babies to Bee and Quilts

Squeezing in one more blog post before September ends.On September 6th I rode to Houston for my nephew Kevin and Niece Alyssa's baby shower. David wasn't going so I rode down with Kaleb and Pamela. The shower was at St Arnold's Brewery so there was beer and wine for those that could partake in the adult drinks. Kaleb was the photographer for the cousins and aunts present.                                             Shelby, Aunt Lynn, Mom & Dad to Bee, Granny to be, Pamela and Me

Kaleb got in the next picture here.
The theme was woodland creatures.  I had to have the kids open their baby gift before we left because..... I finished the quilt top but I didn't have time to get it quilted and bound so yep I'm an Indian giver. Of course the bag was filled with other items that Pamela shopped for.

The pattern for the quilt was Dancing bears and the quilting theme will be woodland creatures but you'll have to wait for the finished quilt in a later blog post. The colors Pamela helped me pick out for the quilt go with the new nursery.  I think they liked the quilt top.  At this writing I got the quilt back from the quilter and I'm working on the binding.  It was a very nice shower.
After the shower we headed to Huntsville to pick up the twins.  They stayed the night with their grandparents. When we got there they were in the pool playing.  We had a nice visit with Tori (Kaleb's mom) and we decided to me Kevin (Kaleb's dad) for dinner before heading back to Bryan with the boys. I can't remember the name (it had changed recently) of the restaurant but it was good.  It was late when we got back to Bryan and I stayed the night because David was coming Sunday to help move furniture.
I had picked up our grand floof Bri on Friday the 5th when I went to PT to babysit her while Kaleb and Pamela have some painting and repairs done in the house. I got her early so she wouldn't be in the way that Sunday when we moved the furniture around.  I'm pretty sure she enjoys hanging out at the farm and playing with her cousins Bruno and Sadie.

I spent two days housesitting while the painters were there while Kaleb and Pamela worked. Thursday (9/11) morning as I drove down the road from our house to go to Bryan I saw this lump in the middle of the road. It was a dead feral pig.  Someone must of hit it earlier in the morning.  Someone's car might be hurting if so.
The painters messed up at the end of the day when putting the weather stripping back on the back door frame they repaired so I couldn't leave early enough to get to my book club meeting that night. Oh well at least their back door looks great but they'll be back tomorrow to finish the fix.

The G3 gals did at least take a few pictures for me  at the meeting while discussing our latest book The Woman in Cabin 10 by  Ruth Ware,
Thanks to Jamie.   Not exactly a group picture but I'll take it.  Love this group.  The group gave the book a 7 rating. It was a pretty good read. Since I couldn't make I sent Kelli my side kick an agenda of stuff that needed to be covered and discussion questions. We work well together.  Good thing.  I hate that I missed the meeting but it is what it was.
Friday (12th) I had a PT appointment.  The original thought was that I'd take Bri home but sadly Kaleb and Pamela had to attend the visitation and funeral of Kaleb's co-worker and friend and it would be really late when they go home so we kept Bri until grooming on Tuesday (16th) and my nail appointment.  Bri was exhausted from 10 days with her cousins of running and playing and grooming wears her out too.
Once my nails were done so was Bri's spa visit. LOL  I don't think she thinks the spa visit is fun.
I get Bri settled back at her home and I headed to Giddings for the Creative Memories Guild Quilt Show.
I couldn't wait to see the quilts. I'm going to share a few of my favorites.

Of close an Aggie quilt is amongst my favorites
The Christmas Tree and Presents is my friend Bekki's quilt. She entered it into the county fair and got a ribbon.

The next two pictures are some close ups of the work on this quilt.

My friend Bekki

David went racing at Little River Academy Saturday (9/13) so I went down to help Kaleb the best I could move their furniture back in place now that the painting has been completed for now.  We did what we could and I took off to run a couple of errands and stop at this garden on Hwy 21 that David had told me about and took me there to take pictures of a quilt last year so I stopped there again to take pictures of another quilt but first I took some pictures of the area. Love all the plants and how they're just clumped together.

This quilt is for a nurse friend of Pamela's. At least this time I didn't post the pictures of Haley's quilt for baby Stetson who is due to arrive soon before she got the actual quilt. I love the Dancing bear quilt pattern.
You can see the cowboy boots, spurs and hats quilting pattern if you look close at the close ups.

So I better stop for now. You're probably on photo overload by now.

Dang September is almost Over

Dang September is almost over and I'm just now getting a blog post written and posted.

I haven't been home much it seems. Now I need to do my usual catch up on what's been happening.

Back on Aug 19th we met up with the Jackson's in Hutto. We finally got our schedules to line up and met in Hutto @The Texas Cafe & Pie shop for lunch. The food was really good. We hadn't seen them since Pamela's wedding back in January and we really didn't get to visit then. We always have plenty to chat about.

Ms Cordelia is sharing her latest quilt top at the Sassy Stitchers Bee. It's Cruella Di Ville. It is really cute. Love the colors too.

The weather turned off kinda nice August 19th and we took advantage by having an adult beverage on the patio and watching the sunset. It was pretty.  David got all the trailing periwinkles and a daisy like ground cover planted in the pots and boots. I thought I knew the name of the daisy looking flower but it's totally slipped out of the memory bank. And of course I had some wine and David had some 7 up and whiskey to end the evening.

Pamela and Kaleb had gotten their Hello Fresh Shipment but they weren't home for various reason and couldn't get them cooked before they expired so they tossed a couple our way to try.
One was a hamburger with a special sauce and cole slaw. I just followed the directions to prepare the burger, sauce and cole slaw and viola' it was done.  It even came with a bun and crispy fried onions. We added a tomatoe.  Very tasty.
This dog cracks me up.  It's the middle of the day and when I walk into our room there's Sadie upside down and sound asleep in Bruno's kennel. Why his kennel I don't know but that's where she hangs out during the day sometimes. But she's so twisted around.... How can that be comfy but it must be because she never moved when I came into the room. LOL
David's new landscaping has started blooming.
The Wedalia (I remembered the name) and Turks cap. Adding some new color out front.
My niece Alyssa and nephew Kevin in Houston area are expecting their first baby and I have to share what they did for the new nursery. They painted it themselves. I think her Mom, Sarah helped but either way I'm really impressed.  Little guy is expected sometime in October.

Can't believe it's been 47 years ago as of 9/2 that I walked down the aisle and said "I do".  And we've been annoying each other ever since. Probably me being on the annoying side and him on the annoyed side. LOL  For our anniversary this year we went to Bastrop for a couple of days. We had some great food, drinks and shopped the antique stores. We also met some very nice people along the way.
After we checked in and got to our room to decide where to go first we had turned on the TV.  This was a first... The TV said Welcome David.  LOL

We decided to go to The Copper Shot Distillery to have a drink first. David got a Bastrop bloody (bloody Mary) and I had a Cowboy Coffee (Pecan Shine, Moonshine Amaretto, Espresso, Rum & Splash of Cream on
 Ice)  Pretty tasty.

Hung there for a while but it was still too early for dinner so we walked on down to the 602 Brewing Company David tried a  I think it a pineapple habanero margarita and I had a Pinot Noir.  He changed to beer and I then tried their Merlot.  Who knew I liked a dryer wine. My taste buds have semi changed in the last year or so. Going from sweet to semi and not to the dryer side.
Getting close to time for dinner so we went back to the hotel to freshen up.
We were having our anniversary dinner at The Piney Chop House, there in Bastrop. We've been wanting to try it for a couple of years now but never had the chance until this year. And all we could say was YUM.  Our steaks literally cut with a butter knife. David was about to ask for a steak knife when our waitress said "Don't worry about a steak knife, this steak will cut with your butter knife"  We thought yeah right well it was a yeah right moment and they were so tasty. He got the sirloin and I got the fillet'. Sides were standard.mashed potato and bacon green beans...
We ordered a bread pudding for dessert. It was tasty but not my favorite. That is just my personal preference on texture. The atmosphere was really nice.

This is a picture of the inside from the website. I didn't want to be snapping pictures of the patrons of the restaurant while they were trying to enjoy their evening. LOL But I got a picture as we exited of us to document our 47th wedding anniversary dinner. Ready for another year of annoying each other.
We would definitely recommend this place.
Wednesday the 9/3 we went shopping/antiquing in Smithville, LaGrange and in Bastrop.  Saw all kinds of fun and interesting things.
Look at these. I guess you'd call them lil' monster dolls.  Each of them had a message. Like I am Brave, I am hope or love.
David thought this represented our kitchen at home. Such a smartie pants.  What's his point? Do you see a problem with these hours?LOL
We went to the 3 antique stores in LaGrange and of course I couldn't not go to the Quilted Skein which is a fabric and yarn shop. Now I'm not a knitter or crocheter but I can admire the beautiful yarn and textures.  The fabric is my fav. And if you're looking for Kaffe Fassett fabric they have lots of it. I know several of the pieces I have came from this shop. It's next to the Texas Quilt Museum but I didn't go in but snapped a couple pictures in the garden outside. It was very sunny and hot.

Our last meal in Bastrop was at The Old Town Restaurant on the corner of Main. This place was hopping every time we passed by so we had to try. It's worth the try. Apparently they share the kitchen with the Chop House according to a shop owner. No clue and didn't ask. They have a sirloin steak also but not the same quality as the Chop House but it was okay.

And before we knew it, it was time to head home for a couple days before I headed out to Houston for the day for my Nephew and Niece's baby shower.  That's a story for the next post.

Hugs everyone
